Moonbat of the Week - 2

Moonbat of the Week (February 18) this time around goes to Minnesota's own, Nick Coleman, columnist and far-left hack for the Star Tribune. Coleman earned distinction for his recent column on slamming the MidwestHeroes.com commercial supporting the war on terror and the U.S. mission in Iraq.

In his column, Coleman claims:

But for those devoted to political spin more than truth, there was a positive development in the war, a development which, oddly, took place on TV sets in Minnesota.

A commercial featuring veterans of the war in Iraq began airing here, telling viewers that the war in Iraq is against the terrorists of 9/11 and that it is going swimmingly.

These are dubious assertions, given that the war was billed as a war against Saddam Hussein and that it had cost the lives of 2,267 Americans as of Friday (almost 1,800 since the president said the mission was accomplished).

This is not what the commercial states. You can view the ad, along with a second ad that contains testimony of military families, at midwestheroes.com.

The ad opens by establishing who the speakers are, all three of whom are veterans, having served in Iraq.

It then states that the main stream media only prints the bad news, not the remarkably good things our troops (and those of the coalition) are performing in Iraq.

I'm trying to figure out if Coleman believes that the enemy our troops currently face are al-Qaida terrorists or something else. He states that the commercial is claiming "that the war in Iraq is against the terrorists of 9/11 and that it is going swimmingly." This is not what the commercial claims. It does mention that we are currently fighting al-Qaida, the terrorists that brought us 9/11, as well as many other terrorist attacks, but it does not set forth the

In a second column, Coleman again attacks the Midwest Heroes, this time assaulting their second TV commercial. The new commercial contains testimony from the families of soldiers who gave their lives in spreading liberty in the Middle East.

The main thrust of Coleman's second column is that Chief Warrant Officer Erik Kesterson, who is one of the slain heroes featured in the ad, had his father and stepmother speaking about the loss of their son. Coleman has a tizzy in that it was his stepmother, and not his "real" mother, and carries on as though a stepmother has no love for a stepchild, and goes on about how his real mother is a an anti-war zealot cut of the same cloth as Cindy Sheehan. He mentions only in passing that Kesterson's father is featured in the commercial, focusing instead on his stepmother, and attempting to moonbat a controversy where none exists.

Congratualations, Nick, you are Monnbat of the Week. I suspect we will see you on this list in the future

Kemple Funeral Protest

The death of a soldier is a sad thing to have happen. The funeral of a slain soldier is a final farewell from his family and friends here on Earth, a time to remember. It is not a time to subject mourners who are grieving the loss of a loved one to have to deal with a hatemongering, anti-gay group holding a protest at the funeral of an American hero.

Yet, that seems to be what is happening more and more across this country.

The Star Tribune ran an article on the funeral of Cpl. Andrew Kemple that took place in Anoka recently, and the hate mongers who protested it, with their hate-filled rhetoric, while a group from Patriot Guard Riders stood vigil between the hate mongers and the mourners.

It torques me off that such a group as that led by Fred Phelps, and his daughter, Shirley Phelps-Roper, and their "church" in Topeka, Kansas, would do such a heinous act as showing up at the funeral of a dead soldier and sing "God hates America…", and yell condemnations at the families of those who have lost their lives, and claim that IEDs are the sword of God used to slay soldiers "because they fought for a country that embraces homosexuals."

This has become a regular sight at the memorials of our dead soldiers, men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our freedom of speech, and help the people of Iraq and Afghanistan achieve these same rights that Americans routinely take for granted.

Hate groups like this was the catalyst for forming the Patriot Guard Riders, who will show up as a counter-point, shielding those who are grieving the loss of loved ones from this contemptible organization.

The counter-protest groups are in agreement that it is one thing to protest the war. What the Phelps group from Kansas is doing is an entirely different matter.

The hate mongers should take the advice from the Patriot Guard at the Kemple funeral, and "hit the road, Jack, and don't you come back no more."

Here's an additional article on the Patriot Guard Riders from the Strib.

Surfing at Altair IV

Captain's Log, stardate, oh, wait, that's pajama boy talk.

We were hanging out on the outskirts of the Altair system, waiting for Flipper Kerry to launch the first of his test torpedoes at Altair IV so we could record his gallant ride across the solar system on the resulting wave.

"Hey, Kahuna, how does my position look to you?" Flipper's voice came over the subspace radio.

I analyzed his position on the main viewscreen, spotting the S.S. Winter Soldier amongst the small Secret Service escort ships that flitted about like so many deep space fireflies, decided he looked okay for a Feddie Wannabe. "Looking good, Flipper. Got the Ripple Ranger Mk 86 ready?"

"I have an intern briefing me on the user's manual in five minutes. Then we'll be all set."

"You mean you haven't read the manual?"

"Of course not. I have Congressional interns do all my reading for me. Then they give me a briefing hitting the high points of what I need to know in order to make a decision, and give me some recommendations. Then I either do what they recommend or I don't. Sometimes I do both."

"And now we know why they call him Flipper'," I muttered. Quark was right. This should be good. Not as in good ride, but as in good laugh.

We hung out on the edge of the system, waiting, until we heard Flipper Kerry call out, "Fire when ready, Ridley."

The Ripple Ranger streaked through the vacuum of space until it slammed in to Altair IV, with devastating effect. No more "monsters from the id" coming from that planet turned asteroid belt. The Ripple Ranger did its job, generating wave after wave of gentle ripples through space, providing easy rides for all bet the gremmiest of surfers. Like Flipper. for whom this would be a real challenge.

We watched (and recorded) the fun as Flipper maneuvered the Winter Soldier onto the leading wave, the swarm of secret service agents in their ships keeping in close enough to guard, and far enough out so that, hopefully, Flipper would not slam into one of them again.

The Winter Soldier went for the ride, and bobbed in and out of the wave as we could tell that Flipper was struggling to keep the ship under control. Instead of dazzling us with a display of expert surfing, we were treated to Flipper doing flips and turns and crazy stuff, and still managing to slam into his secret service escorts, much to their chagrin, as Flipper loudly cursed them for getting in his way.

After Flipper's first ride ended with him scrapping the side of the Winter Soldier on one of the chunks of Altair IV, we could here him calling out. "Man, that was one tough wave. I need to do this again."

"Again?"

"Yeah. Hey, Kahuna, how many of these things have you got with you, anyway?"

"I have two moredo you want to use them here, or head to Alderran?"

"I here Hoth is a really cool place."

"Yeah, however, there's a fleet of Star Destroyers there, and the 5th Imperial Armored Walkers are on the surface performing maneuvers. It may be better to head over to Alderran."

"What ever you say, Kahuna. Just don't transmit that vid to the Duras sisters until we've finished this tour and I have had a chance to review them. I want to make sure they get my best stuff."

"No sweat, Flipper." I suppose there is no need to tell him that it was broadcast live at Quark's Bar on DS9.

Next stop, Alderran.

Kahuna out.

Song for Cindy Sheehan

Get Along Home Cindy Sheehan
From the traditional song: Get along home Cindy, Cindy.

She says she is a patriot
Claims George Bush had lied,
Iraq is a "war for oil"
Where her son, Casey, had died.

Get along home Cindy Sheehan,
Get along home Cindy Sheehan,
Get along home Cindy Sheehan,
From me youll get no paean

Ill never give praise to Cindy,
Let me tell you why,
She spits on our Armed Forces
And calls it apple pie.

Get along home Cindy Sheehan,
Get along home Cindy Sheehan,
Get along home Cindy Sheehan,
From me youll get no paean

To all our Armed Forces,
Where ever you might be
I thank you all, very much,
For keeping America free!

Get along home Cindy Sheehan,
Get along home Cindy Sheehan,
Get along home Cindy Sheehan,
From me youll get no paean

Paean is an ancient word meaning praise/tribute.

Proudly served

Moonbat of the Week - 1

I am a little late on getting this up. This week I am premiering a new topic: Moonbat of the Week.

The winner for the week of February 5-12 is former President Jimmy Carter for the outrageous manner in which he Wellstoned the memorial of Coretta Scott King. Instead of focusing on the good works of King and her late husband, Dr. Marin Luther King, he focused on secret government wiretapping, and suggested that the disaster in the gulf from Hurricane Katrina and how relief efforts had been handled were tainted with racism.

We only have to recall the color of the faces of those in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. Those who are most devastated by Katrina to know that there are not yet equal opportunities for all Americans.
All this from Jimmy Carter, the man who brokered a deal that gave us a nuclear armed North Korea, was instrumental in allowing a totalitarian theocracy seize control of Iran, and without a doubt, the worst president in American history.

Jimmy Carter receives the Kahuna's inaugaral Moonbat of the Week Award.

Townhall Meetup: February 2006

Yep, it was that time of month again. The Twin Cities Townhall Meetup group gathered at its usual watering hole for beer, food, and political discourse.

Seventeen people were in attendance, including several new faces, including yet another blogger, whose blog name I did not catch. Maybe Tracy caught.

Tracy had pulled teeth to get an agenda from the supporting organization, and, as expected, top of the list was the State of the Union Address.

We hit on that breifly, and on taxes, which lasted longer as we got into Socail Security reform, which is badly needed.

The Palestinian Elections was also discussed. Overall, the thought is that amas winning is a good thing as it will (hopefully) force them to change their evil ways. One can hope this is the case, however, I have my doubts.

And I was introduced to a new term: moonbat. why the heck did it take me so long to come acros it?

Oh well.

If you are up to a monthly evening of politics, head to the site that we use to organize it: Townahll Meetup. The group consists of an eclectic mix of conservatives, libertarians, middle-of-the-roaders, and the occasional moonbat.

Rowley's Blog

This week it was revealed at PowerLine Blog that the Coleen Rowley campaign site had posted an image depicting her opponent in the congressional race, incumbent Congressman John Kline (MN CD2) as a Nazi. This began a row that so far has not been quenched by the apology she has posted on her blog.

The article has been changed, removing the image that is nothing more than a viocous slur of a fine man and excellent congressman, who served for 25 years in the Marine Corps with great distinction.

The piece goes into some detail explaining who U.S. Grant was, essentially defending keeping him on the $50.

Yet, changing the images on our currency has been going on since the United States began minting its own currency.

The dollar coin, at one time, was graced with an image of Pres. Eisenhower. The half dollar coin was graced with Benjamin Franklin, before being replaced with an image of John F. Kennedy.

The only logical reason I can see that could explain Colleen Rowley's position against placing an image of Pres. Reagan on the $50 bill, or any other currency, is that she hates Reagan, just as so many leftists in the Democratic Party do.

How much would you like to bet that if it were a proposal to place Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton on our currency, she would support it?

Rowley's blog continues with:

Grant's legacy was marred with chronic political corruption, but that can't be Kline's objection to Grant. President Bush's current party has been called either the most corrupt ever or most corrupt since Grant and congressman Kline sits idly mute day-in and day-out in blind allegiance to his conference as member after member are exposed in myriad Republican corruption scandals.

Actually, I believe that the distinction of most corrupt administration belongs to Pres. Clinton. Check out Judicial Watch for some juicy reading on the Clintons.

And let's not forget such Democratic leaders as Torricelli and Traficant.

Reagan was a great man, and one of America's greatest leaders. His accomplishments were not limited to bringing about the downfall of the Soviet Union (may it rest on the ash heap of history).

Visit the RonaldReagon.com for more on this great man.

Why shouldn't Reagan grace America's currency?

The writer of the article whom Rowley fully supports (although she should have been fired for photoshopping an image of Congressman Kline as a Nazi) gives no reason to oppose changing the currency, other than it would "diminish" the legacy of Pres. Grant.

It isn't about legacy, it's about honoring great men. Grant as had his turn. Now it is time for Reagan.

What Rowley has allowed to be posted (and supported, despite the couched apology) is yet one more reason why I am moving more to the right, and will not vote for Democrats as I have in the past. The leftists running the asylum, er, DNC, only know how to slime people, not debate the issues.

As for the now removed image of Congressman Kline as a NAZI, Rowley stated she apologizes for having offneded Congressman Kline with the image. My question for Ms. Rowley is: why were you NOT offneded by it?

MNGOP State of the Union Party

In the State of the Union Address, President Bush said a great deal on what is going on in the Middle East, all of it hard to argue with, because he is, without any doubt, right on the money.

We remain on the offensive in Afghanistan - where a fine president and national assembly are fighting terror while building the institutions of a new democracy.

And we are on the offensive in Iraq, with a clear plan for victory. First, we are helping Iraqis build an inclusive government, so that old resentments will be eased, and the insurgency marginalized. Second, we are continuing reconstruction efforts, and helping the Iraqi government to fight corruption and build a modern economy, so all Iraqis can experience the benefits of freedom. Third, we are striking terrorist targets while we train Iraqi forces that are increasingly capable of defeating the enemy. Iraqis are showing their courage every day, and we are proud to be their allies in the cause of freedom.

Afghanistan is meeting the new challenges that liberty has brought it, even as Allied Forces continue its pursuit of Osama bin Laden and other members of the terrorist group that was al-Qaida.

Iraq has held free elections, with its citizens marking the occasion with their index fingers dipped in purple ink. And although terrorist groups continue to death and fear throughout that country, the people of Iaq are continuing to sign up in great numbers to serve in its military and police forces. As these forces improve, they take an increasing larger load off of Coalition forces that serve in safeguarding their country until these troops are ready to stand on their own.

Bush went on to mention the recent elections that took place in Palestine, and stated, quite clearly, that Hamas must now reject the ways of terrorism, and recognize the legitimacy of Israel. Bush is right. If Hamas is to govern, it MUST change, or it will lead the Palestinian people to extinction. I don't believe it will change, though.

The president touched on the economy, and pointed out that in the last two and a half years, more jobs have been created here than in Japan and the European Union combined. This is not a surprising accomplishment as much of Europe is dominated by socialist governments that stifle their economies. However, the leftwing media and liberals in Congress continue to claim that the economy is in the dumpster, regardless that the facts prove otherwise.

Congress did not act last year on my proposal to save Social Security, yet the rising cost of entitlements is a problem that is not going away — and with every year we fail to act, the situation gets worse. So tonight, I ask you to join me in creating a commission to examine the full impact of Baby Boom retirements on Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. This commission should include Members of Congress of both parties, and offer bipartisan answers. We need to put aside partisan politics, work together, and get this problem solved.

Great point, great idea. It will never happen as the Democrats will continue to play partisan politics, and keep working Americans chained to bankrupt systems that are doomed to fail them when they need it most. such is the way of "Liberals." They claim to be the protectors of freedom and choice, yet refuse to allow Americans have a choice when it comes to Social Security.

Immigration was another topic touched on, including a call for "orderly and secure borders," while at the same time offering immigrants greater opportunities. What more can one ask? Secure our borders and let in those who will respect and obey our laws, and make it easier for them to come and go as they please. This would be a welcome change.

Energy, health care, tort reform, education, and more, were touched on. As well as a call for bipartisanship, which the leftists in Congress and the Democratic Party have already rejected.

Tim Kaine, the Governor of Virginia, had this to say in his response to the State of the Union Address:

Our commitment to winning the war on terrorism compels us to ask this question: Are the President's policies the best way to win this war?

I'd have to say, yes, especially since the Democrats have not offered any plan except capitulation to terrorists.

We now know that the American people where given inaccurate information about the reasons for invading Iraq. We now know that our troops in Iraq were not given the best body armor or the best intelligence. We now know that the Administration wants to cut tens of thousands of troops from the Army and National Guard and Reserves at the very time America is facing new and dangerous threats. And we now know the Administration wants to further reduce military and veterans' benefits.

This guy is confusing President Bush with former President Clinton. The Bush administration has done its best to INCREASE military and veterans' benefits. Military recruitment, overall all, is up, as is re-enlistment in the regular Armed Forces. As for the Guard and Reserve components, there may be a decline currently, however, that is not unusual.

As for the troops in the field not getting the best body armor and intelligence, who was it that was voting against funding body armor a few years back? If you answered Flipper Kerry, you win a gold star.

Whether or not one believes the information used for blessing an invasion of Iraq and removing a brutal dictator and his murderous regime from power was accurate or not, the fact remains that Saddam Hussein had murdered nearly a half million Iraqis and used chemical weapons against both the Kurds and Iran during the war in the '80s. Oh, yeah, and banned weapons systems have been found on numerous occasions, including a few artillery shells containing various nerve agents. Hmmmm….faulty in tellignece?

Kaine whent on:

When it comes to energy, Americans are using more than ever, paying more for it, and are more dependent on the Middle East than ever before.

There's a better way.

Drill in ANWR? Nope. Push the oil companies to give up their profits. How many Americans have investments in oil companies? Probably any body who has a 401k or similar retirement vehicle. And a lot of that profit is passed on to you in the form of dividends that are reinvested in those retirement funds.

Yes, gas prices are excruciatingly high. The solution to high energy prices isn't socialism, but encouraging the use of alternative energy solutions and revitalizing nuclear energy industry.

but wait, there's more:

If we want to replace the division that grips our nation's capital, we need a change. Democrats are leading that reform effort, working to restore honesty and openness to our government, working to replace a culture of partisanship and cronyism with an ethic of service and results.

The dems speak of restoring honesty and opennes in government. Remember Torricelli of New Jersey, and Traficant of Ohio. And the Clinton Administration. The Democratic Poster Children of honesty and integrity.

As for replacing "a culture of partisanship and cronysism", the Dems are the masters of it. Their concpet of bipartisan politics is "our way or the highway." No quarter for "the enemy," which is what they view Republicans as: the enemy.

Some other Democrat talking points:

Democrats want a health care system that will cover everybody.

Sounds like a call to let government control our health care, and take your medical decisions away from you and your doctor. Dems frequently yell about keeping government out of our bodies, yet they want to turn our bodies over to the government in total.

Democrats want to create jobs and make America energy independent.

Makes it sound like Republicans don't want this, yet the Dems consistently block efforts to drill for oil in remote regions, and blockade the development of nuclear energy. Wind turbines are nice when the Dems like Ted Kennedy are bloviating, but that can't solve our nations energy needs, and neither can ethanol. Only nuclear energy, with advanced reactor designs like PBRs, can move us toward energy independence.

As for jobs, the Clinton recession lost the U.S. some three million jobs (which the Bush administration receives the blame for), yet they refuse to acknowledge the creation of some 4.5 million jobs in the last two and a half years. Sounds like the Republicans are doing pretty good in that space.

Democrats want a strong national security based on telling the truth to our citizens, our soldiers, and our allies.

If so, then vote GOP. I really hate the leftist mantra that the dems keep repeating, that "Bush lied." It doesn't wash with the facts.

All in all, President Bush has it right, and has performed admirably in his stewardship of our country through some very trying times. There is no doubt that he is the right man at the right time and in the right place.

God Bless our Armed Forces, and our Country.

MNGOP State of the Union Party

The Minnesota GOP hosted a State of the Union Address party at party headquarters Tuesday nigtht, offering pizza and soft drinks to all attendees. Some forty Minnesotans (including myself) took them up on the offer. Surprisingly, I was not the farthest traveller. That honor belongs to the guy who came in from Worthington (?), near the Iowa and South Dakota borders. Talk about a long drive.

Gina at the GOP HQ hooked up a television to a screen projector, so that we would have a large screen TV to watch, and this plan worked well.

Pizza arrived shortly before the president arrived in the halls of Congress.

I have never watched the State of the Union Address live before, only catching sound bites after the fact. I am glad I watched this one.

President Bush opened by recognizing the passing of Coretta Scott King, wife of the great Martin Luther King, and her accomplishments. A highly appropriate tribute to a fine woman.

He then moved on to the meat of the address, hitting on all of the most important issues of the past year that are still unresolved, and moving on to the issues that will carry importance over the next few years.

For a transcript of the address, go to FoxNews.com.

High points included the Global War on Terror and the use of NSA spying on international calls invlolving known terrorists, border security, health care reform, energy reform including more attention to alternative fuels such as ethanol and nuclear energy (something I wish he had elaborated on), the economy, which has had sone four years of uninterrupted growth, tax reform and social security.

The Democrats winced.

Time to head to work.
