7-11 Drops Citgo...and About Time, Too
There has been so much to write about, and so little time this past week.
7-Eleven has decided to sever it's ties with the Venezuelan government owned Citgo gas after last week's tirade by that country's dictator, Hugo Chavez. Spokespeople for 7-Eleven state that politics had nothing to do with the decision.
"Regardless of politics, we sympathize with many Americans' concerns over derogatory comments about our country and its leadership recently made" by Chavez, 7-Eleven said in a statement.Good for 7-Eleven, however, it is more than just "concerns" we have, and such inflammatory statements would have many of us, including myself, outraged, regardless of the political party of the President. You do not come here and insult our nation, our leaders, or our people, and get a pass or nod of approval.
The piece on FoxNews goes on to indicate that 7-Eleven had been planning to switch to their own branded fuel for some time. Whatever reason 7-Eleven has for the switch at this time, I commend them for ceasing to do business with communist dictatorships.

While Citgo's money goes into Chavez' pocket, AFAIK, the actual oil in Minny stations comes from Canada.
