Berzerkeley Councilwoman Won’t Back Down
February 6th, 2008 | by Sqotty |Berzerkely, land of the Moonbats, continues to be at the forefront of the news with its controversial decisions in branding the Marines as “unwelcome and uninvited” and providing Code Pinko with special privileges to protest the Marine Recruitment Center. Debra Saunders is taking the Berkeley City Council to task in her latest column on SF Gate.
From SFGate:
“I guess they’ve never heard of free speech,” Berkeley City Councilwoman Dona Spring told The Chronicle as she defended the council’s 8-1 vote to tell Marine recruiters that they are not welcome in Berkeley - and that if the Marines stay, they will “do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders.” The council also voted 6-3 to give the anti-war Code Pink organization a designated parking space directly in front of the U.S. Marine Corps’ 64 Shattuck Ave. recruiting office and encouraged Code Pink to “impede” Marine recruitment.
We’ll set aside that I have read conflicting reports on what the vote tally was for the various issues involved.
Sure, Berzerkeley has the right to say what they want about the Marines. No problem. Just don’t expect me to put up with my hard-earned money that Uncle Sam takes from me (taxes) to support your city. Also, “We The People” have as much right to tell the city of Berkeley that they are out of line with their calling the Marines “unwelcome and uninvited.” Or maybe Dona Spring has forgotten that Free Speech belongs to the people.
However their giving Code Pinko special protest privileges oversteps the bounds of Free Speech and infringes on the rights of others.
Saunders continues:
When government officials pass a law to impede the political expression of nonbelievers, as the Berkeley pols did on Jan. 29, they are wielding the club of government to suppress dissent. They are abusing their authority.
Code Pink does not limit its activities to protesting the war. Code Pink also blocks access to the recruiting office, members have chained themselves to the door - which constitutes an attempt to infringe on the rights of those who, despite a barrage of anti-war propaganda, nonetheless want to become Marines.
When you chain yourself to the doors to prevent entry into the office, this is not free speech, this is criminal misconduct. These people should be arrested. Of course, we are talking Berkeley here, so it won’t happen.
Allowing it to happen, and even encouraging it by giving free loudspeaker permits and a designated parking space in front of the office is just plain wrong.
“We’re not condemning the men and women who serve, we are condemning the U.S. policy that is teaching the Marines and other military people to torture, oust other countries’ political leaders and do other evil things,” Spring also told The Chronicle. It’s typical Berkeley doublespeak: Spring isn’t against the troops, she’s just accusing them of evil.
I had not seen this particular quote from Spring before, but it explains the far-left thinking of her ilk. Like John F. Kerry, who in the early ’70s, described our Armed Forces as a monster trained to kill, she considers our military members to be sub-human.
Our troops are not trained to torture people, nor do they do so. This is not their role. When they oust other countries political leaders, it is because those leaders are tyrannical butchers of humanity, Like Hitler in WW2, The Taliban who offered sanctuary to Osama bin Laden and his hordes of terrorists that murdered thousands of innocent people, and the ouster of Saddam Hussein who butchered over a half a million of his own people, including thousands exterminated with chemical weapons. When America acts to remove a regime, it is for a reason, and that reason is to rid the world of a murderous, tyrannical regime and replacing it with the light of Liberty.
Perhaps Spring believes the world would be a better place if the U.S. had stayed out of WW2. After all, how many countries political leaders did we oust during that war? (Germany, Italy, Japan. Were there others?)
And to insinuate that our troops do “evil things” shows exactly what kind of a Moonbat Spring is. Our troops, by and large, do not intentionally do “evil things.” There have been a few exceptions, such as the Abu Ghraib incident, and the rape/murder incident; all of the perps involved in those criminal acts are busily performing hard time in a military prison and branded with a felony conviction and bad or dishonorable conduct discharges. Our Armed Forces, as a whole, do NOT commit evil acts.
And bare in mind that Spring holds U.S. Policy to blame as it is responsible for teaching our troops to “do other evil things.” The U.S. policy has never taught our troops to perform acts of evil. NEVER!
For that statement alone, Berkeley City Councilwoman Dona Spring has earned herself a Moonbat Award. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of such an honor right now than someone who shows such utter contempt for our Armed Forces and claims to support the troops while stating they are taught to torture and do evil things.
Berkeley proves the myth that when America was founded, it was tipped on one edge so that all the nuts and flakes would end up in California.
