Berkeley Shells Out Big Bucks For Protest
February 15th, 2008 | by Sqotty |The news is out. Berkeley residents shell out nearly $100K for Tuesday’s protest. Personally, I think it should come out of the paychecks of those council members that voted to oust the Marine Corps in the first place. Had they not done so, the city would have saved that money.
From InsideBayArea:
“It is a big number, but our priority was to make sure that the public and the council were safe, and that people could participate in the public meeting, which they did,” City Manager Phil Kamlarz said. “Crowds started to gather on Monday afternoon, so it was about a 36-hour event.”
Note to Kamlarz - you would’t have had this problem if you didn’t have so many Moonbats on the city council or a Moonbat for a mayor.
Also it is important to remember that the city council only took action to rescind and modify their statement to the Marine Corps, not the other four items that creates an environment of harassment against the Marines, including giving Code Pinko special protest privileges including a free designated parking space directly in front of the marine Corps office and a free loudspeaker permit (not that they need that as they are loud enough without a loudspeaker) as well as encouraging people to do what ever is necessary to impede the work of the Marines. I have not been able to find out the status of their latest resolution calling on Canada to give sanctuary to deserters from our military.
Unsurprisingly, protests continue as Code Pinko and other hard-left, anti-American groups organize a “kiss-in.” Can you say “got herpes?” And some of them (okay, most of them) are pretty hard to look at. Troll bait!
CodePink officials said they staged the “kiss-in” to “provide a positive, loving counterpoint to the death and destruction of the military.”
Apparently Code Pinko has forgotten that it is the terrorists and sectarian death squads that are responsible for all of the “death and destruction” taking place in Iraq.
How stupid are these people any way?
Oh, yeah, I forgot, they are the ones who wondered what we were doing in Hawaii when the Japanese bombed it in 1941. They are also the ones who don’t know the difference between an Administration and a Regime.
Meanwhile, the Semper Fi Act of 2008 is being stalled by an “anonymous hold” in the U.S. Senate. This is a piece of legislation that would cut off all Federal funding to the City of Berkeley.
Another InsideBayArea piece points out:
Programs facing cuts, under the federal proposals, include $243,000 for the Chez Panisse Foundation to provide organic school lunches to Berkeley schools.
Nearly a quarter of a million dollars for ORGANIC school lunches? Isn’t regular food good enough? They have to have organic? Talk about wasting taxpayer money. That one earmark alone should be cut despite the current rage against the Marines.
“We are really proud of the Berkeley City Council for not buckling under intense pressure from the pro-war ’swift-boaters,’” said Medea Benjamin, co-founder of CodePink.
Sure Code Pinko is proud. They are getting a free pass to do what ever they want at the Marine Recruitment Center, including tactics that are banned (rightfully so) at abortion clinics, and they are congratulated for doing so by the Berkeley City Council.
I wrote to both of my senators concerning federal funding to Berkeley. I am pretty sure where both of them stand (one for, one against) and it will be interesting to see what response I receive from them. If I get the kind of response from the DFLer that I expect, I will post it here.
