Vets For Freedom Forest Lake Event Cancelled
March 25th, 2008 | by Sqotty |The Vets for Freedom Tour, which has been traveling across the country for a couple of weeks now, has had one of its stops cancelled. Not in Berkeley, the land of Moonbats, where one is accustomed to having everything under the sun politicized, but in Minnesota, the Land of the Loons.
From the Star Tribune:
Steve Massey, the school principal, said the decision to cancel was prompted by concerns that the event was becoming political rather than educational and therefore was not suitable for a public school.
He said the school had received several phone calls from parents and others, some of whom indicated that they may stage a protest if the event took place.
“The event was structured to be an academic classroom discussion around military service. We thought we’d provide an opportunity for kids to learn about service in the context of our history classes,” Massey said. “As the day progressed, it became clear that this was becoming a political event … which would be inappropriate in a public setting.
Why is it that the Left always has to make things political? Why do these crybabies always threaten to protest an event that might make this country, our military, and the Liberation of Iraq look good? What are these people afraid of? That some children may learn the TRUTH? How can having some military veterans discussing their experiences in the context of a history class be deemed “inappropriate”? The only people who were making this into a “political event” were the Moonbats and Loons threatening to organize a protest over this event.
The event at the Forest lake High School was organized by Pete Hegseth, a graduate of that high school and a Iraq veteran with the 101st Air Borne Division.
“I think it’s extremely unfortunate that a school would bow to the political pressure of outside groups and not bring in a veterans organization,” Hegseth said. “Are we saying that patriotism and duty and honor have no place in our public schools?”
Apparently, in Minnesota, the answer to that question is an embarrassing “yes!”
This event should not have been forced out of the high school by a few anti-American zealots. If anything, Massey should have stood his ground and kept the commitment to the kids in his charge and held the event. If the Moonbats and Loons gathered in protest of the event, so be it. This was too important an event to allow to be canceled based on the demands of a few hard-left ignoramuses.
One thing that is for sure, it is Massey that has turned this non-partisan event into a political spectacle.
