Dems Want To Tax Us More - What A Surprise

Here in Minnesota, we have a Metro transit taxing district, which consists of those few communities that need a transit system, like Minneapolis and St. Paul. Not too long ago, the Democrats up at the State Capitol attempted to expand the transit taxing district to include the rural cities of Lakeville and Farmington; neither city would have received any benefit from the expanded tax.

Of course, this has never stopped the Democrats from taking a bad idea and making it worse.

My pal up in the State Legislature, Pat Garofalo, has informed me that the Democrats have decided to float the idea of expanding the transit taxing district to include all of the townships as well as Lakeville and Farmington. Don’t these people get it? Why would anyone living in the rural communities in the counties that make up the Metro area want to have a tax forced on them from which they will receive absolutely zero benefit from?

Since the State House and Senate are both controlled by tax-and-spend Democrats, I have little doubt that it will pass and end up on the Governor’s desk. I also have no doubt that Governor Pawlenty will veto the bill. As the Dems were successful once in over-riding a veto, thanks to six “Republicans” (whom I hope get voted out of office), it will then come down to how an such a vote goes. It will be tight. Let’s hope that those six defectors on the last over-ride have figured out that such tax expansions are bad ideas.
