Carter’s Second Term

June 13th, 2008 | by Sqotty |

A lot of people have been referring to the potential of an Obama Presidency as being Jimmy Carter’s Second Term, just as there are people on the hard-Left that are referring to the potential McCain Presidency as being a Third Bush Term. Based on that, it becomes pretty easy to determine who should be our next president: McCain.

The funny thing about a Second Carter Term with Obama at the head is that even John McCain has picked up on that line. I may not agree with McCain on all of the issues, but at least he knows how to big up a good line and use it. He is also aware that the Left refers to his campaign as being the Third Bush Term. He seems to make light of that.

But what are Obama’s feelings on being referred to as the Second Carter Term? Is he proud of that since he has received Jimmy Carter’s endorsement? Is Obama aware that Carter is the worst president in the history of this country, which is why he was booted out after his first term in the oval office? Did Carter endorse Obama because he hopes that Obama will replace himself as the worst president in the history of our country? What similarities are there between the two?

Carter raised taxes and increase government spending. Obama promises to do the same.

Carter abandoned the Shah of Iran which led to the revolution that toppled his government and replaced him with a totalitarian theocracy. Obama promises to abandon Iraq and let Iran and the Mullahs seize control, probably with Muqtada al-Sadr at its head.

Carter castrated the nuclear energy industry by pushing through legislation that banned the reprocessing of spent fuel rods; reprocessing fuel rods allows us to generate more energy from the fuel rods while reducing the amount of radioactive waste that needs to be stored. Carter also brought us long gas lines and high prices, with the price at the pump doubling in 1980. Obama promises more of the same, with a refusal to allow domestic drilling and kowtowing to the Global Warming Alarmists like Al Gore, demonizing the oil industry and threatening crippling taxes on oil companies that will push fuel prices to even bigger highs. Obama also hates nuclear energy. No surprise there.

There are also similarities between Obama and Bill Clinton (who was one of only two presidents to be impeached). Clinton hated the idea of private citizens owning guns and pushed the assault gun ban (now expired). Obama wants total gun control and would ban anything more powerful than a .22 caliber rimfire.

Clinton never served in the Armed Forces (and manipulated the system in such a fashion so as to avoid serving); Obama also never served in the Armed Forces, preferring to explore recreational drugs and, like Clinton, going to Law School and accumulating wealth. Okay, military service is not a requirement, nor should it be. But there should be some willingness to put your own life on the line when you seek a job that puts you in the position of ordering others to put their lives on the line. How else can you understand what you are asking our troops to do?

So, if Obama does become our next president, be prepared for yet another round of Jimmy Carteresque policies - big taxes, big government spending, big inflation, gun control gone wild, and the beat goes on.
