Putin Violates Cease-Fire in Georgia
August 14th, 2008 | by Sqotty |I haven’t had an opportunity to write about the situation in Georgia since it began. Russia’s unprovoked invasion of the sovereign nation of Georgia is a clearly an act of aggression against its neighbor and an attempt by Putin to rebuild the Soviet Empire. The fact that Russia has not only refused to remove its troops from Georgia, but has also broken cease-fire agreements is proof that this is the case. McCain was right when he described Putin with three letters: K-G-B.
From MyWay News:
A Russian military convoy defied a cease-fire agreement Wednesday and rolled through a strategically important city in the former Soviet republic of Georgia, which claimed fresh looting and bombing by the Russians and their allies.
There is no reason, legitimate or otherwise, to justify the violation of the cease-fire by Soviet forces. Yes, let’s call them what they are.
Russia started this war. Georgia is a U.S. ally that was seeking admittance into NATO. With Russia deeply rooted in Georgia, it will be difficult to root them out by force, let alone via diplomacy.
Putin has been saber-rattling for a couple of years now, working hard to rebuild the Soviet infrastructure. How many people remember the news that he was forming a new youth-movement modeled after the Hitler Youth? Then there is his claim to the North Pole and all of its resources. Add to that Russia’s continued association and support of Iran and Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. Taken together the writing was on the wall and it was only a matter of time before Russia would make a move like this.
