Support the Troops Rally

September 1st, 2008 | by Sqotty |

I went to the Support the Troops rally, which was slated as a counter to the pro-terrorist parade taking place in St. Paul today. Much fun was had. Many of the participants were Gold Star Parents, so emotions were rather high, but in a positive fashion. These are people who were sharing the love and memory of their loved ones.

Jon Voight put in an appearance, giving a well received and emotional speech. He was the center of a group hug by the Gold Star Parents and singed autographs and hung around for people to get pictures with him. The man is a class act.

Unlike some of the pro-terrorist protesters. Most of them just kind of marched along and didn’t interact with us, which is a good thing. Some interacted in a positive way, ya know, “hey dude, how goes?” type thing. There were some, and most assuredly they were in the minority, who insisted on giving us the bird, calling us names, and using a variety of profane words, especially John F. Kerry’s favorite “F” word. This is uncalled for behavior to target at people who have lost loved ones in Iraq or Afghanistan.

I have a fair amount of video from the event which I will try to process over the next couple of days. Which may be a challenge as I do need to spend more time with my daughter, who turns 3 later this month.

It was hot, it was loud, and it was fun. It was also good to have visibility showing the troops that there are those who do support what they are doing.
