Coleman May Barely Hold Onto Senate Seat; Other Results

The Star Tribune reports that a recount is “looming” in the Minnesota Senate race between Norm coleman and Al Frank-N-furter. The Minnesota Secretary of State is showing the results in that contest as follows:

Coleman - 1,210,247
Frank-n-furter - 1,209,124
Barkley - 436,819

Dean Barkley was the Independence Party’s candidate, and served as a two-way spoiler, drawing people away from both Coleman and the Dumb Effin’ Liberal. Coleman has a little over a thousand votes more than Frank-n-furter, making this race very tight and a recount is inevitable.

Also on the home front, in my township, someone actually voted for Nader. I am stunned. McCain carried my community by a significant margin (11%), but Coleman barely made it, with Barkley taking significant votes away from Coleman. More votes than he took from Frank-n-furter. This makes it clear to me that, although Barkley had some appeal, he did more damage to Coleman than he did to Frank-n-furter.

Closer to home, my pal, Pat Garofalo, will be returning to the State House for another term with an solid victory over Bev Topp. Surprisingly, my township went for Topp over Garofalo. I wonder if having a Bev Topp campaign sign in front of the old town hall, which still carries a sign saying it is the townhall, had any influence in this close-to-home election result. It’s private property, but that may be unethical, as I received calls from people asking me about that. Many people are unaware of this and some actually thought the township was endorsing her. Not the case!
