OryCon, Pt. 2
November 23rd, 2008 | by Sqotty |Saturday is done and over. It was a wild evening, as well as a fun filled day.
Steampunk is big here. Let me rephrase: it’s BIG! There is a very active steampunk community in the area and they fielded quite a few costumed steampunkers and had a party in the convention function area.
I also attended a couple of more panels on designing future histories, while the darling Sue’La hit a costuming workshop with Miss Anna.
We hooked up with local Klingons, Qaolin, and old buddy Geneo from San Jose (now living in Washington). So, all told, there were five cosutmed Klingons at the con.
The Masquerade Ball had 40, yes, 40 entries. The Ice Queen took the Best of Show, and deservedly so.
The party scene: Okay, I am used to conventions with lots of room parties. Although the parties here were few in number, the quality of those that were here was high. The Pirate Party was the happening scene, frequently standing room only. Both 2011 World Con bid committees fielded parties of different scale. As far as parties go, Reno has the edge. But Seattle has the beer.
We’re now at the beginning of the last day of OryCon.
All in all it has been a fun con. I’ll post a final report after we return home and have downloaded the cameras.

It was a pleasure to meet you at OryCon. I look forward to the video clips on Youtube… especially the PTSD Biker Scout at the mere mentioning “ewoks”!
I had a great time and it was a pleasure to meet you and your family. I trust that you will have a safe trip home.
Be well, my friends!
