Strib on Coleman-Franken Senate Election

January 8th, 2009 | by Sqotty |

I don’t often agree with the editorial board at the Star Tribune, but this time it looks like they got it right. In their current editorial concerning the ongoing battle for the U.S. Senate between Norm Coleman and Al Franken, the Strib points out that it will take a judge to determine the legitimacy of some disputed votes and the disposition of absentee ballots that have yet to be counted.

This is a very close election, and it is appropriate to use all the tools at our disposal to assure the integrity of the vote. And, hopefully, veryify that there not any ballots counted more than once, or that any improperly secured ballots “discovered” after the election are included in the tally.

Whether or not a court decision will change the current outcome in this ever-changing battle remains to be seen.

I have no doubt that if the end result finds for Coleman, there will be outrage on the Left; if it is found for Franken, I doubt there will be much more than a whisper asserting that he stole the election.

What saddens me is the number of Conservatives who may have handed this election to Franken by voting for Barkley in protest over one or another position Coleman took during the past six years. And we’ll be stuck with the Moonbat for the next six years.
