Obama Got Something Right

Obama gave the military commander on the scene of the Somali pirate attack authorization to take out the pirates if Captain Phillips, the mariner held captive by four pirates, was believed to be in imminent danger. Granted, the moment the pirates took him out on a rubber dingy his life was in imminent danger.
According to the reports three of the four pirates were popped by U.S. snipers, and the fourth taken prisoner. Why the fourth was not capped as well is beyond me. There was a time that Navies hung pirates that they captured.
Jefferson had a unique way of dealing with pirates that attacked U.S. shipping. He sent in the Navy to take out their bases. This should be the next step in dealing with the Somali pirates. Of course the Europeans will cry “foul” as they would much rather pay off the pirates ransom demands.
Meanwhile the pirates are blaming the U.S. for eliminating three of their criminal brethren. Gotta like that. Reports that have interviews with the pirates (INTERVIEWS!) asserting that we started the killing and we’re their new enemy. We started the killing? What have these people been smoking (and will they be supplying Obama with any of it)? They have kidnapped hundreds, if not thousands, of mariners over the years, and currently hold some 250 hostages for ransom. The only way they can get those ransoms paid out is by using the threat of killing their hostages. And let’s face it, folks; you commit piracy on the high seas, you are likely to get shot.
But, dagnabit, I acutally had to say Obama got something right, even if he won’t take the next step in dealing with these pirate scumbags.
