Obama Political Failure #25

Obama is showing his prejudices when it comes to murder (and the reasons therefore) with the death of pro-life activist Jim Pouillon. It took two days for the White House to deliver a statement about the murder of Pouillon, along with a second victim. The statement fairly weak: “The shooting last week in Michigan was deplorable. Whichever side of a public debate you’re on, violence is never the right answer.”

When the abortionist George Tiller was murdered, Obama had much more to say about it, and did so promptly: “I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning. However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence.”

We have here a lot of differences. In one case, we have the victim clearly identified in the statement as well as the issue over which he was murdered. Obama asserted that he was “shocked and outraged”, very strong terms, over the murder, and referred to such acts as killing abortion doctors “heinous acts of violence”. For the most part, I am okay with Obama’s take on Tiller’s murder. It was a heinous act, and something one could easily be outraged about.

But, in the case of the pro-life activists murdered in Michigan, I can find no confirmation that Obama identified who the victims were; he certainly did not reference the issue, abortion, for which Pouillon and Michael Fuoss were murdered. Obama did refer to their murder as being deplorable, but he stopped short of saying he was “shocked and outraged” by it, as he was with Tiller’s murder. he also failed to note that it was a “heinous” act. Why the differences? Is it more outrageous for an abortion doctor to be murdered than for two pro-life activists? Is it a more heinous crime when the victim is a pro-abortion supporter and the perp is pro-life than when the roles are reversed? Not in my book.

And yes, the perp, in this second case, a man named Harlan James Drake, was offended by the pro-life signs that Pouillon used.

What is also important to keep in mind is how outraged Obama was when two soldiers were shot, one killed, in front of a recruiting office around the time of Tiller’s murder. Oh, wait, Obama was saddened by that attack, not outraged.
