Olympic Sacrifice by the Obamas

Wow, it must really be tough being First Lady of the United States. Michelle Obama jets off to Denmark, calling it a “sacrifice” that she is willing to make, in order to lobby for the Olympic Games 2016 being held in Chicago. How much of MY money was “sacrificed” to pay for the Obama’s road-show to Copenhagen? That’s I would like to know.

Mrs. The One had a lot to say about why the Olympics should be held in Chicago, all reasons that could be made equally well for the competing bids. So, other than spending a lot of taxpayer dollars to go to Denmark, what are the Obama’s adding to the Chicago bid?

From the Washington Examiner:

Finally, having the Olympics in Chicago would be important to “let people know that we understand that sports saves lives, that it makes dreams come true, that it creates visions in kids’ heads to make them think they can be the next David Robinson, the next Barack Obama, the next Nadia Comaneci, the next Oprah Winfrey,” Mrs. Obama said.

Okay, I am not sure which David Robinson she is referring to here, but I assume it is the one who is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and served in the U.S. navy before pursuing a career in Basketball and nicknamed “The Admiral”. For the record, this Robinson was a Lieutenant, Junior Grade at the time he fulfilled his commitment to the Navy. And, yes, Robinson sounds like a darn good role model. His role on the basketball court is also not too shabby.

But as for her other choices? Barack Obama has done nothing junkie except win elections, hang out with terrorists, screw up the economy even more than it already was, brought us to the point of double-digit unemployment, something we haven’t seen in a quarter century, quadrupled the budget deficit, and added over a TRILLION dollars to the National Debt. And he hasn’t even completed his first year in office. Unlike the aforementioned Robinson, Obama never served in the Armed Forces, and his drug abuse would have prevented his being able to serve.

Nadia Comaneci was a Romanian gymnast, and a fine one. But that’s about it.

Oprah Winfrey? Aside from being a wealthy talking head; not much substance to justify her being a role model either.

So, for her list of role models, I suppose one out of four ain’t too bad.

Which leads me back to why are we footing the bill for the Obama’s to go to Denmark to shill for the Chicago 2016 bid? Especially during a time of economic crisis, wouldn’t OUR money have been better spent elsewhere, like paying down the debt?

Update: Brazil will be hosting the 2016 Games, the first time that they will be held in south America. Congratulations to them. It is well deserved.
